I know this may seem like a waste of a post and a dumb one, but I swear it's not. Seems like common sense right, brushing your hair? Like duh, you just stick a brush in your hair and make strokes right? Wrong! I have seen so many people brush their hair the wrong way, causing major breakage and hair loss, so I finally decided to make a post about it.
The brush I will be talking about in this post is The Paddle Brush by Wet Brush. This has been my favorite brush to use so far! It is designed to use specifically on wet hair but on dry hair as well. My favorite part, and the most important part, are the bristles. The bristles are soft, flexible, yet strong enough to detangle hair. I've had fancy expensive brushes that never even came close to being as awesome this gentle giant. They had awful stiff bristles that made brushing and detangling hair so difficult! The Paddle Brush is also vented, which makes it easy to use in the shower and easy to clean!
I don't like brushing my hair in the shower so I brush it on dry hair before I shower, and once more (very gently) on towel dried hair. Brushing before the shower helps reduce any tangles and breakage during the showering process and I just find it less complicated.
Now, here comes the proper brushing technique...brush from bottom to top, not top to bottom! At this point, you might be thinking, "You want me to create more tangles??" NO! I'm not talking about teasing or back combing. I'm talking about detangling by working your way up. This way, you are not pushing all the knots in one area creating a mega-knot and then have to rip apart the mega-knot. That's what happens when you start at the top, you create a rat's nest and and end up wondering where all the split ends came from.
In the photos below, I tried my best to explain it in the simplest way I could.
In the first photo, I started on the bottom, a little bit before the end of my hair, and brushed downwards. Once that part was detangled, I moved a little higher and brushed downwards again.
Once that part was finished, I moved higher and repeated until my whole head was soft and tangle free.
My brushes used to be filled with hair jammed between the bristles after brushing but this brush has been a life saver and so has the proper brushing technique.
Have a happy hair day!
Coconut oil has so many benifits and uses.
For this post, I will show you what coconut oil can do for your hair.
Coconut oil is benificial to our hair protein because of the molecular structure and the lauric acid it contains. It penetrates the hair shaft and attaches to the hair rather than sitting on top. It works its magic from inside out and has been proven to help hair recover from dryness, prevent damage, become stronger, and even promote growth!
Not only is it great for your hair alone, but for your scalp as well. If you suffer from dry, itchy scalp or dandruff(and even lice), applying coconut oil can clear and soothe your scalp tremendously due to its anti-fungul benefits.
For this treatment, you will need:
Coconut oil comes in a solid state. You can either add some in a heated pot to liquefy, or simply scoop some in your hand and emulsify to let the warmth from your hand melt it.
Gently brush your hair. You want your hair to be tangle free for easy application.
Section out your hair and start raking the oil through. You can do this on dry or damp hair.
Make sure your hair is saturated with coconut oil and apply on scalp. Take your time to massage your scalp as you do this. This helps stimulate the blood flow and promotes hair growth.
When your hair is fully saturated and you look nice and greasy, put your hair in a topknot and secure with hair ties or bobby pins.
I like to do my treatments overnight to receive maximum benefits. Having my hair up on top of my head helps me with comfortable sleeping. You can wear a hair cap during this process or lay a towel over your pillow so you don't transfer coconut oil on your pillows. If you don't like having the treatment in over night, you can leave it on for 1-3 hours or how ever long you can. I suggest a minimum of 1 hour.
In the morning, I wash it out with my current favorite cleanser, Matrix Biolage Cleansing Conditioner. My hair immediately feels like silk and has so much shine and movement. I love it!!
I recommend doing this treatment once a week for quicker results.
Have a happy hair day!!
